"Mouse-Team" at ICBM
German famous children’s TV programme „Broadcast with the Mouse“ visited ICBM this week. On a story around marine litter, video shooting took place last wednesday (11.07.) at the Wilhelmshaven site of the institution as well as near Schillig. The programme is expected to be broadcast on German TV ARD in late summer.
… the ICBM research group „Sea Surfaces“ currently took their remotely operated research device to sea. In August, members of the ERC grant-funded group are heading to the Arctic aboard the Swedish research ice-breaker Oden.
Since 2015, the Jacobs Career Fair is being held every year at the international Jacobs University Bremen. And for the third time already ICBM Junior Scientists Coordinator Dr. Ferdinand Esser was present as well. In the Campus Center of Jacobs University, marine science institutions, such as ICBM, AWI, ZMT and MPI, presented themselves, along with established enterprises as well as startups.
During the last glacial period, carbon dioxide has been "locked up" in the deep Southern Ocean. Current findings of scientists from Oldenburg and Bremerhaven, published in the recent issue of Science magazine, point at favourable conditions in the South Pacific. A team around geochemist Katharina Pahnke, who heads the Max Planck Research Group for Marine Isotope Geochemistry at the ICBM, presents evidence that during the last Ice Age the Southern Pacific must have been strongly stratified.

YOUMARES: . . YOUMARES was organised for the first time in 2010 as network meeting for YOUng MArine RESearchers. Within the German Society for Marine Research (DGM) the Working Group on Studies and Education was founded to organise that yearly event. Since 2010 YOUMARES has developed into the largest meeting for young marine scientists in Germany. It is now well-known among young researchers as an excellent platform to present results in a professional atmosphere that, at the same time, still manages to avoid the sometimes overwhelming character of established scientific meetings. The concept is to exchange ideas in an easy-to-talk-to group of similar minds. In other words, it has grown up while remaining young at heart.
