Prof. Dr. Peter Schupp takes part in the workshop IPCRBC-DAAD Workshops in Manado “Build up International Master Program at UNSRAT”. The workshop is a part of the DAAD-funded program "Subject-Related Partnerships with Institutions of higher education in Developing Countries”. The aim of this workshop is to develop a Master’s program for Indonesian and German students that will be based at Sam Ratulangi University (UNSRAT) in Manado, Indonesia. Most classes will include fieldwork and projects that will give Indonesian and German students the opportunity to work in the center of the coral triangle: the region of highest marine biodiversity in the word.

August 2017

Prof. Dr. Peter Schupp, Dr. Masteria Putra, Elham Kamyab and Reza Faisal are on a research trip in Bitung, Sulawesi, and the Seribu Islands north of Jakarta, together with the Research Center of Oceanography, RCO-LIPI.

The aim is to collect interesting marine invertebrates that will be screened for bioactive compounds as part of the BMBF-funded GINAICO project.

Upon collection, organisms are taxonomically identified and chemically extracted. The extracts are then tested for antimicrobial and antiviral activity.

Elham Kamyab is joining this research trip for 3 months under the DAAD-funded fellowship program “Biodiversity and Health”.
